The Bollands started their musical journey in 2009. A piano, a guitar and a passion to make music that counts. Joyce and Christian have come from very different backgrounds. Joyce was born in Malaysia and moved to New Zealand when she was 10 years old. As a child she was surrounded with music, playing classical piano from a young age and being heavily involved in ballet and dance. Christian spent his younger years in a house truck travelling the North Island of New Zealand, and has always had a guitar in his hands. It is this fusion of musical styles that makes The Bollands unique.
The music they play is hard to define but has been described as folk-rock. However, they don't care much for being pinned down to a musical style. Their passion is performing live and, particularly, connecting with people, whether that be on the stage or at the bar. They strive to write real songs about people, life and experience. They have played in all sorts of places throughout New Zealand and Asia, and in front of all sorts of crowds. From pizza shop rooftops in Taiwan to outdoor music festivals in New Zealand, every experience has cultivated their musical character.
The future holds more amazing people and places for The Bollands, as they head back to Asia to play their hearts out for whoever will listen. So, if they are in your town or playing at your bar, come and say hello and have a beer.
